Our Garden
Because of the relatively short winter and the early warm temperatures, vegetables can be planted in early to mid march. The cool weather crops such as lettuce, peas, beets, radishes, onions, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower can be planted. Later in mid April we can plant the "real" summer crops such as tomatoes, corn, squash, cucumbers, okra, peppers and a variety of summer produce. May 1st begins the"melon" growing season. Whatever type of melon (water, honeydew, ambrosia, rocky ford) these will produce a fine and cool tasting melon in August. Then in the fall, many vegetables(cabbage, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower) can be planted again for cool fall season harvesting. It is a delightful area to grow one's choice of fine vegetables and fruits. |
